Whether you are new to recruiting or looking to improve your skills, these recruiter tips and tricks will help you be more effective in your role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recruiter-tip-1-treat-every-candidate-with-respect-and-enthusiasm\">Recruiter Tip 1: Treat every candidate with respect and enthusiasm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a recruiter, you likely interact with thousands of candidates.&nbsp;On average, <a href=\"https:\/\/legaljobs.io\/blog\/interview-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">118 people<\/a> apply for a single job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a lot of people!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While communicating with so many people, it\u2019s easy to forget that you\u2019re interacting with real human beings \u2014 with real feelings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenny shares, &#8220;Sadly, I hear from talent way too often that they don&#8217;t usually meet recruiters who seem to care about them. It breaks my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You never know which candidate will end up being \u201cthe one,\u201d so make sure you treat them with respect and enthusiasm that will make them excited to join your organization. Is now still a good time to talk?&#8221; and then never say Joe&#8217;s name again. Dale Carnegie said, &#8220;A person&#8217;s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.&#8221; Whether we like to admit it or not, we enjoy hearing our name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do your best to say candidates\u2019 names a few times in your calls, so they understand that you care about them as a person. Also, try using the candidate&#8217;s name in messages, texts, calls, and emails (without being excessive\/disingenuous).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recruiter-tip-3-text-candidates-if-you-re-running-late\">Recruiter Tip 3: Text candidates if you\u2019re running late<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Respect is huge, and disregarding someone&#8217;s time can be seen as extremely disrespectful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, the interview process is already nerve-wracking. Candidates may prepare for hours or even days in anticipation of what questions may be asked.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you make a candidate sit by the phone or computer waiting for you, you\u2019re likely adding to their stress. So making them wait long periods of time for an update just adds to that anxiety.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t leave your candidates (stressfully) hanging!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to managing candidates in an applicant tracking system (ATS), Jenny suggests keeping a manual record\/spreadsheet of all candidates for all positions you\u2019re working on. This allows you to see precisely where all candidates are in the interview process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From there, you can sit down on Fridays, visit your spreadsheet, and follow up with every pending candidate. This may entail:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Clarification on what step \/ where in the interview process this interview is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A run-down of the interview structure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Background on the interviewers&#8217; personality\/interview style<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Links to the interviewers&#8217; LinkedIn profiles (to get to know them ahead of time &amp; do a little research)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Potential scenarios\/questions to be prepared for<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Interviewing can be nerve-wracking, so shedding some light on what a candidate can do to prepare will make your interview process stand apart.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recruiter-tip-6-let-candidates-ask-you-anything\">Recruiter Tip 6: Let candidates ask you anything<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a recruiter, your main job is to make sure a candidate is a good fit for your company \u2014 but it\u2019s also important to make sure your company is a good fit for the candidate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make it known to your candidate that you\u2019re happy to be a resource and answer any questions like:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>How to prep for an interview&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personality types they may encounter&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to use Google Meet to share a presentation&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How many meetings they\u2019ll be in each week&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What the benefits package entails<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea8 <strong>Disclaimer:<\/strong> Of course, it\u2019s important to refrain from sharing proprietary information about the company or how to answer questions for the interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recruiter-tip-7-prep-your-candidates-and-your-interviewers\">Recruiter Tip 7: Prep your candidates <em>and<\/em> your interviewers&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re following the tips above, then you\u2019re already going above and beyond to prep your candidates \u2014 but don\u2019t forget about your interviewers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interviewers are the unsung heroes of the interview process, willingly taking time out of their days to help make sure you hire great people.
